  Daniel Yoo, violinist/violist


Daniel, is an internationally known violinist and violist. He has studied and collaborated with some of the most respected musician's of our time. At the tender age of 14, he was invited to study at the Juilliard School of Music on violin with Dorothy Delay, and on viola with Eugene Becker. There he played along side some of the worlds most famous musician's of today. He later moved to Philadelphia where he was invited to study with Jascha Brodsky, a predecessor of Eugene Ysaye, and Victor Danchenko who is a predecessor of David Oistrak. There he continued his studies at the Ester Boyer College of Music on full scholarship and stipend. He later attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, and left to go on a concert tour of Asia with a 17th Century Stradivarius Violin on loan to him by a private owner.

Daniel has won numerous competitions internationally, but locally he has won prizes in competition's like the Canadian Music Competition, and the Kiwanis Music Competition at a provincial level. He is the open division trophy prize winner of 2001.

He has worked mainly as a private teacher and freelance musician. Has has acted as concertmaster of numerous orchestras such as the Cleveland Philharmonic, New Jersey Philharmonic, and Puerto Rico Symphony. He has been invited to perform in prestigious music festivals such as the Verbier Music Festival, where he worked with conductors like Kurt Massur, Charles Dutoit, and James Levine to name a few. He has toured most of Asia & Europe along side Anne-Sophie Mutter and Andrea Previn, and has also collaborated closely with the famous Hollywood movie composer Kristoff Penderecki, as a solo artist and concertmaster of the Casals Festival Orchestra.

After living abroad for the past 25 years, he has decided to return to his home town to establish himself as a violin teacher, and to make his mark in the Toronto music scene.
