Kwangwon Kim is a percussionist and teacher of classical and jazz music. Kim has dedicated his career to promote contemporary music and new percussion music and has performed a numerous classical and jazz works in Korea, U.S.A and Canada. In Korea, Kim was a second principal percussionist of the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra for twenty years and frequently appeared in many concert halls as a founding member of the trail-blazing Percussion Group 4 Plus and Ensemble Ritmico. He was also a faculty member at Ewha Womans University, Sookmyung Women’s University, Hansei University, Catholic University of Korea, and Orchestra of Dreams (El Sistema Korea).

Kwangwon received his Bachelor of Music degree in percussion from Seoul National University and his Master of Music degree in percussion from Mannes College of Music in New York City. He also earned a Master of Music degree in conducting at Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow. After moving to Toronto in 2016, Kwangwon has actively been pursuing his life’s profession by performing with the Korean Canadian Chamber Concerts and teaching at the Salvation Army Band. Kim has recently been appointed as a guest player with the Toronto Messiaen Ensemble for the 2017-2018 season.
